The fourth in a continuing series of one-shot fanfics.
All the distractions in the world couldn't keep her mind off it forever. She'd have to face the whole thing again sooner or later. Sabrina Mancini was still torn up inside about the incident with Sun Wong, whom she thought was her friend, and neither had attempted to speak with the other since that fateful day. Her in-ring performance hadn't suffered much, but anyone who was paying close attention could see something was eating at her, not the least of which being former three-time World Heavyweight Champion in another promotion, Marc Dragovic, his client and extra-marital lover, Kerri Watson, and Kerri's current tag team partner and former Tag Team Champion, Ana Codrescu, who was also called Strigoi.
One night a few months after that incident, Sabrina was scheduled to have a match against a member of Damage, Inc., whom Sun had left the Upstarts for, and Sabrina was worried that Sun might be at ringside, or possibly come out and interfere on her new team-mate's behalf. Her mind on this and little else, she didn't see the big man or the two women who were waiting for their match as a tag team to begin. She ran into the giant and fell hard to the floor.
"Excuse you," came a voice from somewhere high above, "What's the matter with you? You don't know how to politely ask someone to stand aside?"
Shaking her head, Sabrina managed, "I'm sorry. I didn't see you." She attempted to stand, but a hand easily three times the size of her own was there, offering to help her up. She took the big hand and looked up and up and up to see bearded face that looked down at her.
"The way you've been wandering around recently, lost in a daze as you have been," said the woman with dark purple hair, "We wondered if you saw anything."
Sabrina shook her head. "I'm sorry, but it's nothing you three can help with."
"Is that how you really feel?" asked the woman with snow-white skin and contacts that made the whites of her eyes black as pitch and her irises blood red. "If this whole thing is about Sun Wong." Sabrina visibly cringed at the mention of that name. "Then you're just going to have to get over it. I know it's heartless, but this is professional wrestling. People you think are your friends are going to turn on you."
"I know that!" Sabrina snapped, "But if she was that unhappy with us, with the group as it was, why couldn't she have said something sooner, rather than leaving us the way she did?!"
"The Great Wyrm" shrugged. "Do you really? Why don't you ask her yourself? It's been long enough, you two should be able to have some words without massacring each other." This stopped Sabrina cold. She wanted to ask Sun that very question, to know if she'd felt that way the entire time, if their friendship really was all a lie.
"What, what if the thing she says turns out to be what I fear the most?" She was practically choking on the words.
Kerri now shrugged. "I guess if what you're most afraid of turns out to be the case, you'll just have to learn to accept that not everyone is going to be your friend."
Defeated, Sabrina let out a mournful sigh. This Kerri Watson was right, much as she didn't want to admit it. If Sun was serious about this whole thing, then there really was nothing she could do to change her mind. By this time, she had begun to regret the things she said on that day and had begun to hope that maybe, just maybe, there might be a chance they could at least co-exist peacefully, but if what these three were saying was true, that might not be possible.
Out of nowhere, Strigoi said, "You've got a member of Damage, Inc. tonight. I've had problems with them in the past, enough for me to want a shot at revenge, and being that your match is after ours, Kerri and I could come out with you to make sure they don't try anything."
Taken aback, Sabrina stammered, "Why would you do that for me? I've seen your matches. I know the kinds of things you two do in the ring."
Kerri laughed a little. "That's all for the show, love. I'm actually gentle and very loving. If you'd like, we could take a nice hot shower after your match and I can show you just how 'loving' I can be." Sabrina took a very visible step back.
Marc put a hand on his client's shoulder. "Down, girl," he said with a laugh. "Don't get me wrong," he said to Sabrina, "I don't manage teams larger than two people, and neither of them said anything about actually forming a team with you. Myself, I'm her manager, so where she goes, I go. But one advantage to hanging out with me, most people wouldn't try anything funny, if you understand me."
Sabrina nodded. Yes, she could see what he meant. If he really was as strong as everyone said, he'd be able to keep her and her former friend apart, no problem. Kerri was a heel slowly turning face, and Ana Codrescu didn't act like any face she'd ever rooted for as a fan, but despite this, and what association with them this early on in Kerri's face turn might do to her own reputation in the ring, she couldn't help but ask, "If you don't mind, would you guys be willing to have my back until I've had a chance to talk to Sun?"
