GOTS: SAC is easily my favorite anime of all time. In fact, it may be my favorite show of all time and I hate a LOT of anime. I've watched both seasons 5-10 times a year since 2005. If you like The Matrix, Phillip K Dick, or other heady SciFi like the Dune series or William Gibson's cyber punk books, you'd love this show.

And nobody's mentioned Death Note yet. Tough not to love that one.

The most recent anime I got into was Baccano! It's based in the US during the 1930's and involved immortality drinks and gangters. The people I know who like anime more than me get mad when I tell them I prefer dubbed over subtitles. In this one, you gotta watch it in English for the accents! The main 13 episodes (they made three extras later) take place between 1930 and 1932 and focus on a train ride where the 6 or so main plotlines come to a head. It bounces around that timeline after nearly every scene. The 1st episode introduces everybody, which makes it impossible to follow. However, it's worth the watch.

YEAH!! TACHIKOMA!!

As a long time enthusiast, I've watched a lot of anime in my time. Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Speed Racer, Samurai Pizza Cats, Gatchaman, and various others. I'm actually watching Code Geass and Black Lagoon now. I just finished watching Great Teacher Onizuka, Gokusen, and Green Legend Ran. I highly recommend Karas, Armitage III Poly Matrix, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Project A-Ko, You're Under Arrest and Patlabor. Much of the titles I've listed have become legendary over time and offer a breath of fresh air compared to the big three of Shonen Jump (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach). Not that anything is wrong with them, but just like how wrestling is more than WWE, anime is more than Shonen Jump, Adult Swim, Toonami, or even sci-fi channel (syfy).
