The next in a continuing series of one-shot fanfics

Was that it? Just because she'd joined Damage Inc., everyone was against her now? Kerri Watson had remained interested in Sun Wong, but she wrote it off as nymphomania. That woman seemed to have it that way for all the competitors, even Zombie Luna. Ana Codrescu was never particularly friendly toward her, but even she managed a curt hello in passing each other every now and again. But the one that hurt the most outside Sabrina Mancini, who took her departure from their group the hardest of the remaining three, was one she thought wouldn't abandon her, Kerri Watson's manager and a personal favorite of hers when he was still competing, "The Great Wyrm" Marc Dragovic. He seemed to be avoiding her, and the only explanation he gave her when she first confronted him about it was that the work of a manager was deeper than just accompanying their clientele to the ring, and he'd been busy with those things recently and hadn't had time. He didn't seem to be lying, as everyone he managed had said they'd not seen much of him recently, but she couldn't shake the feeling he was keeping things from her.

Sun had to admit, she'd never been that much of a people person, having few but deep and long-lasting friendships. She never could bring herself to be truly open with some people, but Marc seemed the sort who didn't really care about their professional ties, so long as they didn't get in the way of personal affairs. All that changed when she became public with the fact that she'd joined Damage Inc. He was always busy now, never had time but for one or two drinks, always had to be somewhere by some time. She couldn't stand it. Damage Inc. welcomed her with open arms, but since the beginning, they felt so distant. She was successful with them, and she'd gotten title shots since joining them, so all the sacrifices were worth it in this regard, but she just couldn't shake the feeling that they didn't care about her. Marc had warned her about her decision. Should she have listened?

Shinobi couldn't deny that she missed "The Great Wyrm." He was her friend, and his lack of time to spend with her was eating her alive from the inside, and she had to know the truth. Was he really busy? She got her chance to confront him one night after a match. She wasn't scheduled to fight, wasn't even really required to be there, but Ana Codrescu was supposed to be there, and Marc went out with her. Sun stopped them on their way back to the locker room.

"You go on ahead, Ana," Dragovic said to his client, "I'll catch up with you in a bit." He stared hard at the Li'l Dragon. He knew they'd have to have words sooner or later, best to just get them out of the way now. "You have something you want to say to me?"

"You're damn right, I do!" Sun snapped when Strigoi was out of earshot. "You've been avoiding me for months now, and I want to know why!"

The big man shrugged. "I told you, I'm busy. Ana, Kerri, and a few others compete in other promotions besides Rival Angels, and it's my responsibility to make sure there are no scheduling conflicts."

"Bulls***!" she shouted, "You can't possibly have that many clients! And if you did, you'd have their schedules figured out months in advance. You're avoiding me, I know it! Why?!"

Dragovic chuckled. "Still as green as a pickle," he sighed, shaking his head. "Not all of my clients compete on the same nights or in the same countries. Do you want to know why I've been gone so much? Do you? I have clients all over the wrestling world, it just so happens Kerri and Ana are my primaries, but I have people to manage in Canada and Japan, so when I told you I needed to be somewhere, chances were good I needed to catch a flight."

Still worked up, Shinobi blurted, "Then why didn't you say so, rather than just saying you had to go?! I could have accepted that!"

The Great Wyrm exhaled again. "What do you want from me, Wong?" The way he said her last name just then came as a slap to the face. Before, he always called her Small One. "Could you really have accepted that I have enough clients as it is, I couldn't possibly take you on at this time? Even if that's not what this is about, could you have accepted that there really is more to being a manager than just being at ringside? Contract negotiations, appearances, career moves. Do you know how much sleep I get in a night? I'm lucky to get four hours in an actual bed on any given night. Those I absolutely can't be with in person, I'm talking to on the phone, a few hours with each, but all in all, ten, twelve hours a day most days. And then you have the fact that two of my clients compete in a promotion that does weekly shows. Through all of this, how, exactly, am I supposed to have time every week to hang out with you? Or did you forget that through all this, I'm dying, too?! I need as much rest as I can get, and honestly? This job is killing me faster than my disease alone would!"

This is another cool story! It seems to speak at the isolation that Sun is feeling and the increasing anxiety that comes with it. Not to mention, the slight paranoia that makes things all about her.
